Santiago Achurra Larraín acquires Viña Requingua with only 40 hectares of vineyars planted and a small 400,000 liter winery with wooden tanks and dirt floors. Fortunately the estate had about 1,000 hectares of land total, which would allow for considerable growth.

Viña Requingua opens a network of sales offices throughout Chile offering jug wine in 5 liter and 15 liter formats. This network of offices in maintained until the 80´s at which point Viña Requingua begin to change it´s way of producing and marketing wine.

Viña Requingua attends its first Vinexpo with trade show in Bordeaux France and begins to build a network of international distributors.

The winery undergoes a major transformation giving way to newer technology and stainless steel tanks.

The first wines are planted on the hillside as Viña Requingua begins its search for higher quality grapes in order to develop higher end wines.

Viña Requingua recruits French Winemaker Arnaud Escurrou whose mission is to begin producing higher end wines.

Viña Requingua launches its main brands; Potro de Piedra, Toro de Piedra and Puerto Viejo. A new sales team is recruited in order to promote the new brands worldwide.

Viña Requingua first automated bottling lines and labeling machines is purchased replacing the manual bottling and label line and allowing for growth in sales.

Our current Chief Winemaker Benoit Fitte joins the team leaving his home in France and moving to the winery.

New varietals are planted such as Pinot Noir, Malbec, Carignan, Mouvedre and Petit Verdot.

As part of a new quality control program Viña Requingua gains ISO9000 and HACCP certification opening enabling compliance with major retailer worldwide. At the same time Viña Requingua begins its expansion to the Maule and Colchagua Valleys.

Viña Requingua opens its first international subsidiary in the United States under name Puerto Viejo Wines.

Currently Viña Requingua has sales in over 35 countries.
